Tuesday Tiny Techie Tip

msglock

Truly tiny tip this week. I recently wrote a script which wraps around an xlock(1) clone called xlockmore(1) which does all kinds of spiffy fancy stuff on your display while your screen is locked just like in Windoze.

The script is called msglock and takes either a string on the command line, or a filename. It locks your screen and displays the specified string, or the contents of the file on the blanked screen.

It's sort of a high-tech replacement for the patented Chuck Dulken "In a dang meeting" cards.

% msglock "In a dang meeting... page at 955-1012"

or

% msglock msgfile

Unlock the screen by entering your password just like with the regular Sun xlock.
